What is the Secretary of State?
The Secretary of State:
Is Indiana’s chief elections officer. As such, he or she supervises the electoral process and maintains campaign finance reports.
Incorporates new businesses. In addition, he or she oversees notaries public, the filing of commercial liens, and issues trademarks.
Supervises the securities industry. In this capacity, the Secretary of State enforces Indiana’s securities laws, bringing action against persons and businesses which violate such laws.
Regulates the registration of motorized vehicle dealers.
Very interesting story, something similar to this happened to me not too long ago and it pretty much played out similarly to how you describe it.
