As Council President, he helped pass budgets that invested in public safety strategies and contributed to declines in homicides and overall violent crime. He also backed investments that make neighborhoods healthier and stronger with quality-of-life improvements.Vop worked hard to see SEA 46 (2023) pass in the state legislature, and then helped Indianapolis launch a pilot program designed to keep longtime homeowners in their homes and reduce displacement as tax bills climbed. In addition to this work, Vop has also made sure responsible and fair development is the baseline in our city. That's why he worked to better ensure that city dollars benefit all residents. Vop championed the policy requiring that any city-incentivized residential development set aside a meaningful share of units for affordable housing.&nbsp;<h3>Breaking down silos</h3>Progress is not possible when city government, nonprofits, philanthropy, and businesses work in isolation. Vop has consistently built coalitions with neighborhood groups, civic partners, and employers to move shared priorities forward. He has also pushed initiatives that encourage fair wages and create pathways to stability for working families.Vop led the effort to "Ban the Box" in City of Indianapolis hiring, helping hundred&nbsp;of employees who might not otherwise have been able to be hired, and partnering with major employers to expand second-chance opportunities. He has long championed reentry programs rooted in dignity and accountability, so people returning home can rebuild their lives and strengthen their communities.

I'm Vop Osili, and I Know How to Get Things Done.

<h4>Let's be real. Indianapolis has challenges. Streets that need repair. Neighborhoods that have waited too long for investment. Families being priced out of the homes they've spent a lifetime building. I won't pretend these problems don't exist. But outrage serves no purpose unless you put it to work.</h4>So that's what I've done. I came to public service as an architect, and I've approached the work the way an architect must: by understanding both the reach and the restrictions of local government, and then building things that last. I'm not interested in playing politics or scoring points. When entrepreneurs couldn't get the funding they needed to build their livelihoods, we created the city's first small business loan program. When longtime homeowners in Riverside told me they were being taxed out of the neighborhoods they built, I took that fight to the Statehouse and stayed with it for seven years until property tax relief became law. When the pandemic threatened to put thousands of our neighbors out of their homes, we moved nearly $46 million in rental assistance to 21,000 households, because in a crisis, government has to work.None of this was accomplished alone. It took neighbors, community partners, and colleagues willing to do the steady, often unseen work of governing. That is how a city moves forward. I have never believed that your race or your zip code should predict your quality of life or your access to opportunity. And I've fought my whole career to make sure that isn't how things work in Indianapolis.<h4>What follows is my record. There is more to build, and I hope you will build it with us.</h4>

Surrounded by a family defined by hard work—his grandfather a plumber, his grandmother a substitute IPS teacher, and his mother a special education teacher—he learned the values that still guide him today: fairness, respect for others, and the responsibility for the place you call home.Growing up, he saw how much a neighborhood’s future depends on whether people feel invested and whether they believe their block matters as much as anyone else’s. That lesson shaped his leadership. INDIANAPOLIS, IN (January 15, 2026) - Vop Osili announced today that he is running for Mayor of Indianapolis, grounding his campaign in service, community, and a commitment to every neighborhood.A fifth-generation Indianapolis resident, his mother and grandparents instilled in him a belief that you always leave a place better than you found it.&nbsp;“The last time I saw my grandfather, on the morning he died, he was sweeping the sidewalk in front of our home in Haughville,” Osili said. “Not because anyone was watching, but because he had pride in our home and pride in our neighborhood. I’ve carried that memory through my life and my public service.”Through his 14 years in public service, including his tenure as City-County Council President, he has brought a hands-on, problem-solving approach to city leadership, keeping neighborhoods at the center of decision-making.&nbsp;Osili has championed policies to expand affordable housing, partnered with state leaders to mitigate property tax spikes, and launched Indianapolis’ first city-funded microloan program to help entrepreneurs in lower-income neighborhoods start small businesses.
